Modern Art is delighted to announce an exhibition of new work by Barry McGee. This is McGee’s third solo show with Modern Art, and his first exhibition in London for six years.
Barry McGee’s style and visual language has an instantly recognisable character and unique voice. His work draws its structures and graphic impact from the influences of tagging, ‘Mission School’ abstraction, and vandalism, meeting a formal and installational logic that draws on the conventions of contemporary painting and sculpture. The core of McGee’s practice is the expressive immediacy and spirit of independence that is rooted in the culture and histories of socially motivated intervention in the public realm.

Tran Nguyen and David Bray at Thinkspace Gallery- LA

Thinkspace Gallery presents Tran Nguyen ‘The Synapse Between Here and There’ and David Bray ‘Return of Bad Wisdom’ Opening this Saturday, The 16th of July at the Culver City gallery location.

Tran Nguyen was born in 1987 in Vietnam, and raised in Augusta, Georgia where she attended the Savannah College of Art and Design. In 2009 Tran received a BFA in Illustration from the University and still calls Georgia home. Tran is fascinated with creating work that can be used as a sort of psycho-therapeutic support vehicle, exploring the mind’s surreal dreamscapes and subconscious desires. Her delicate work is greatly inspired by the Art Nouveau period and is created with colored pencil, graphite and thin glazes of highly diluted acrylic paint all in a muted palette that perfectly showcases her romanticized subject matter.

David Bray in from the UK in our project room for his debut U.S. solo show. ‘Return of Bad Wisdom’ features nine new mixed media works on paper along with a collection of smaller works that compliment the 7 larger works in the exhibit.s

Moniker Projects presents Gossip Well Told

With the street art phenomena continuing to smash attendance records in galleries and museums globally, Moniker continues to build on the success of last year’s art fair with the launch of a special London exhibition in July.

GOSSIP WELL TOLD will showcase a selected group of artists who will exhibit at this year’s Moniker, which will take place on October 13-16th 2011. GOSSIP WELL TOLD will exhibit new and original artworks and installations by internationally recognised artists from a movement spawned through word of mouth, a movement that brought colour to the streets of the world’s most exciting cities and that spread like wildfire via the internet. This is a scene fuelled by the artists and lovers of the art itself. It has received little support from the conventional British art establishments and is only now beginning to receive the wider attention and credit it deserves in the UK.

An Innovating, DIY mentality and not waiting to be invited is the philosophy that has built the scene and made it what it is today. GOSSIP WELL TOLD brings to London the most progressive, talked-about work on the art wires right now and will offer a taste of what can be expected at this year’s 2011 edition of Moniker.

This exhibition highlights the international scope of street art and beyond, as the genre continues to attract worldwide attention from museums, auction houses and collectors. As well as showcasing artworks emanating from the street art scene, Moniker will be widening its scope of reference with the inclusion of artists such as Bob and Roberta Smith from London, Pop surrealist Luke Chueh from California, and acclaimed New York photographer Cheryl Dunn.

Moniker will take place from 13-16th October 2011 at Village Underground in Shoreditch. During the fair, Moniker Projects will continue with its broader philosophy of commissioning a series of offsite projects including public artworks, educational workshops and film screenings.
