Two of my favourite artists have a show together opening this weekend at Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City.

An incredible new collection of photo realist paintings by Jeff Ramierz and the unique and stunning double exposure paintings by Pakayla Rae Biehn make up their new exhibition titled “Being There.” I have been an avid follower of both of these artists over the years and have to say that they always meet my expectations.

I wish I could Be There for this show, if your in the Culver City/LA area then I recommend you head on over to Thinkspace and have a look for yourself.

New Masters at Subliminal Projects.

May 7, 2011 § 1 Comment

Opening TODAY at Subliminal Projects is ‘New Masters’- An exhibition concentrated on artists whose work serves as the contemporary equivalent to that of the Old Masters in the way that they seek to represent the classic human figure.

Exhibiting artists include: Mary Jane Ansell, Sean Cheetham, Ron English, Benjamin Bryce Kelley, Miles ‘Mac’ MacGregor, Ann Marshall, Stephen Wright, Johnathan Yeo.

To perfect their representation of human anatomy, musculature, and proportion, artists throughout the ages turned to ancient Greek and Roman sculpture.  By imitating ancient precedents, the Old Masters of art developed a classical figure type that remained the predominant mode of representation for centuries.  Following, the 16th and 17h centuries of the Renaissance took the classical figure to a higher level through the use of perspective, the study of human anatomy and proportion, and through their development of an unprecedented refinement in drawing and painting techniques.
In the present day, these leading contemporary artists have a heightened ability to understand and interpret their subject, while emphasising the mind-set and methodologies that have guided artists for over five hundred years. Their figures are influenced by characteristics of today- feelings, surroundings, beliefs. and relationships, incorporated with new techniques and mediums, while still holding true the fundamentals of the classical form, thus becoming the New Masters.’

The show runs until the 4th of June at: SUBLIMINAL PROJECTS GALLERY, 1331 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90026 E: info@subliminalprojects.com. Visit the gallery website here

Literal.Eyes- 30 European artists recreate Iconic works of Literature in to visual masterpieces

May 2, 2011 § 1 Comment

London Miles is proud to present an all-new group exhibition that takes a closer look at the content found inside the dusty book covers of iconic written works by great literary masters from across all generations. Literal-eyes concentrates specifically at the ways in which great writers have inspired this hand selected group of young and emerging European artists to be the painters they are today.

Whether inspired by a novel, poem, or a poignant phrase from their chosen literary piece, 30 artists are recreating how they visually and literally interpret their all time favourite piece of narrative into a real life painting. Iconic writers whose narratives are being recreated include the all famous children’s favourite and cartoonist Dr. Seuss to our very own national literary hero; William Shakespeare. Artists have chosen their literary works from a broad range of authors, as well as foreign writers relevant to their home origin.
